About

Computer programs have left nothing untouched. They influence what we like, how we interact with material and fictional worlds, how we communicate, how we learn, how we express ourselves  as humans. The future written into the programs we create will govern us and our lives in ways our imaginations are unable to comprehend.

Kamoso means "tomorrow" in setswana. Code Kamoso is a prompt for anyone and everyone to be a part of determining what that tomorrow will be. A prompt to participate in the dictation of what tomorrow will mean. Rather than letting technology be something that happens to us, we decide how it will grow with us. We participate in the future now, by writing code ourselves: writing our narratives, our cares, hopes and dreams into the technology of the future.  Only 5% of the world population knows how to code, and this population is growing faster outside of South Africa than it is inside of it. Out of FOMO and the fear of missed opportunities to address South African complexities, industry professionals Pelonomi Moiloa and Daniel Kalmer set out to teach, share and transform. Through a combination of coding academy programmes and working with schools to adapt to technological change we aim to get this coding thing going for a better tomorrow, for everyone.

Meet the team

Pelonomi Moiloa

After nearly giving up on Electrical Engineering because of a foul experience with a programming course in second year she was given a second chance to fall for code and now codes all day everyday and has done so for the passed 5 years while also advocating for machine learning fairness, youth coding initiatives, mobilising tech and womxn communities.

Daniel Kalmer

Daniel started programming  in his IT class in high school.  He continued this interest by spending a whole lot of time learning  to code games after high school. Following a slightly more unconventional path, Daniel ended up coding professionally in the financial sector.

He enjoys music , drawing,  dogs and has a  passion for teaching.
